How to Use Voicemod with VMKey in Real Life (IRL)

Bring your favorite Voicemod voices and effects to cosplay events, live performances or street shows!

With the VMKey device and a handful of portable accessories, you can run Voicemod Mobile anywhere—no PC required!


This guide walks you through a simple, reliable setup using standard audio splitters, a USB-C power/audio adapter, a rechargeable speaker, and a battery pack.

Note: You can substitute any equivalent parts that provide the same connectors and power ratings. These are the ones we’ve tested and know won’t ghost you!

Components Name & Function

3.5 mm Audio/Mic Splitter

1× 3.5 mm TRRS male → 2× 3.5 mm TRS female (headphones + mic)

USB-C 2-in-1 Adapter

Audio output + PD 60 W charging

Portable Speaker / Voice Amplifier

Built-in rechargeable battery + 3.5 mm Aux in

(Optional) TRRS Extension Cable
3.5 mm male→female with mic ring—for routing under costume

Wiring Diagram

  1. Phone → USB-C Adapter/Splitter

  2. VMKey → USB-C adapter “Data” port

  3. (Optional) External Battery → USB-C adapter “PD” port

  4. Speaker → VMKey “Controller” port

  5. Audio/Mic Splitter → VMKey “Headset” port

  6. Microphone (Headset) → (Optional) Extension cable, if needed → Audio/Mic Splitter Mic port

  7. (Optional) In-ear monitors → (Optional) Extension cable 2, if needed → Audio/Mic Splitter headphones port

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Connect Voicemod Key to your USB-C Splitter.

  2. Connect the speaker to the VMKey.

    • Plug the speaker’s 3.5 mm cable into the VMKey’s Controller jack. This delivers processed audio directly to your amplifier.

  3. Connect the headset splitter to the Voicemod Key's headset port.

    • Insert the 3.5 mm TRRS splitter into the VMKey’s Headset jack.

    • The VMKey expects a TRRS input; the splitter aligns the mic ring correctly so your microphone will be recognized.

  4. Connect your microphone

    • Plug your mic into the splitter’s microphone port.

    • (Optional) Use the TRRS extension cable to run the mic under your costume or helmet.

  5. Power and phone connection

    • Connect the VMKey to your phone via the USB-C 2-in-1 adapter:

      • “Data” port → VMKey

      • “PD” port → (Optional) Battery pack

    • Finally, plug the adapter into your phone’s USB-C port. This keeps your device charged while running Voicemod Mobile.

  6. Power on & configure

    • Turn on your battery pack and speaker.

    • Plug the splitter into your Phone.
    • VMKey should appear as the audio interface—select it, choose your voice preset, and adjust volumes as desired.

Tips & Recommendations

  • High-quality cables: Opt for braided, gold-plated connectors to reduce noise and improve durability.

  • Secure mounting: Ensure to properly fasten your VMKey, splitters, speaker and battery.

  • Strain relief: Protect connector joints with heat-shrink tubing or gaffer’s tape.

  • (Optional) Self-monitoring: If you need to hear yourself, add lightweight in-ear monitors to the headphone port of the splitter.
