Ready to change your voice in VR chat or games?Curious how to drop voice effects into your VR device with no PC? Wondering how to set up Voicemod on Quest 2 or 3?
Time to bring the voice chaos into the metaverse!
With Voicemod Key (VMKey) and your Voicemod mobile app, you can throw on voice effects and meme sounds in real time while playing on your Meta Quest 2 or 3! No PC needed!
Follow this quick setup and get ready to talk weird in VR.
Note: For this to work with Meta Quest devices, you'll need to purchase an additional USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack adapter:
That being said, let's begin with the guide!
How to connect
Step 1: Connect VMKey to your phone and launch Voicemod
Use the USB cable to plug the Voicemod Key into your smartphone (Android via USB-C, or iPhone via a Lightning adapter). Open the Voicemod mobile app, and wait a few seconds for it to recognize the VMKey device. Once connected, the app will act as the controller for your voice changer.
Step 2: Connect the VMKey to your Meta Quest
With the console turned ON, take the 3.5mm audio cable included with the VMKey and plug one end into the VMKey’s Controller input jack. Connect the other end of the cable to your USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter. Now plug the USB-C adapter into your Quest 2/3 headset. This links the Voicemod Key’s output into your Quest as an external microphone source.
Step 3: Plug in your headset to the VMKey
Connect your gaming headphones (with built-in microphone) to the Voicemod Key’s Headset output jack. The headset’s mic will pick up your voice, send it through the VMKey to the Voicemod mobile app for transformation, and then the processed voice will go to the Quest. Ensure the headset is fully inserted into the VMKey for a stable connection.
Step 4: Enable the external microphone in Quest settings
Put on your Quest headset and open the Quick Settings menu. Navigate to the sound or microphone settings and look for the External Microphone option. Switch External Microphone to ON – this tells the Quest to use the connected VMKey/headset combo as your mic instead of the built-in microphone.
Note: For best results, make sure your phone’s media volume is turned up and check that the Quest’s microphone level is not muted or too low. The phone acts as your audio processor, so a higher phone volume will ensure your voice effects come through loud and clear in VR.
