Imagine your voice as if it were an instrument, Voicemod will help you to enhance it, but you will have to use it properly to get the best results.
Here are the tips you need to fine-tune it, practice will do the rest:
Get the best Microphone setup by diving into the ideal way to utilize and fine-tune for exceptional volume and audio quality: INPUT SIGNAL CALIBRATION
Mic distance
A good distance from the microphone helps the voice to be perceived with more quality, without loss or excess of unnatural frequencies in the human voice. This improves intelligibility for subsequent DSP/AI effects processing.
- The distance to the microphone* should not be less than 15 centimeters close (which would create popping).
- The distance to the microphone* should not be more than 30 centimeters away (which would add room reverberation).
*The distance between the microphone and your mouth when using headphones should be between 2 and 5 centimeters.
Mic gain
A good microphone input volume calibration avoids distortion(excessive input volume) or cut words (insufficient input volume).
Also, if the input signal is excessive or insufficient this will cause the background noise to be higher. The VU meter should oscillate between yellow (speak projection) and orange (loud projection).
In Voicemod V3 you will be able to see a line of dots indicating the optimal levels your microphone should handle for best quality:
Noise gate/suppression (SNR calibration)
Depending on each situation, the ratio between voice speech and background noise should be optimized using or not using noise reduction.
Keep in mind that the distance to the microphone and the input gain are crucial so that the noise reduction does not generate artifacts or cut words.
Let's say it's makeup that covers imperfections but creates new ones if it's not applied correctly.
- In noisy spaces, noise suppression is recommended despite the fact that it could introduce some degradation in the quality of the voice.
- In quiet spaces, noise suppression is not recommended.
You can now set a Noise Gate within Voicemod if you navigate to Settings - Audio - Advanced Settings:
With your microphone setup perfected, it’s time to focus on delivering a captivating performance. Remember that certain voice types, such as AI-generated voices or singing, require a learning curve through experience and experimentation because your voice “Is an instrument”: SPEAKING TIPS
It's time to start playing a pleasant melody for your audience. Take in mind that some voices (AI, singing…) need learning by experience and experimentation. Let's see the key points for optimized performance:
Prosody/Voice Acting (Cadence, Vocalization…)
Prosody and voice acting are key!
Especially with AI voices, mastering prosody is essential for correct intelligibility. The AI will misinterpret certain vowels or consonants if it is not vocalized correctly.
Projection
Projection is something that content creators, voice actors, singers... must master to avoid loss of intelligibility or loudness instability. Try talking, shouting, whispering, and find your sweet spot but keep in mind that the AI Voices is still beta so the expressiveness will increase with the improvement of the technology.
Non-Verbals
Especially with AI voices, try not to blow into the mic or make non-verbal noises that could be misinterpreted by the AI, causing undesirable artifacts to sound. But… you can try it by yourself, over time technology will allow a greater range of expressiveness in this regard.
